Tour de SkiErg 2016
Concept2’s annual Tour de SkiErg is named after the FIS Nordic World Cup Tour de Ski, a series of Nordic races which takes place every January. The SkiErg version runs the month of February with a different SkiErg event each week. This year’s schedule was as follows:
- Week 1, Feb. 1–7: 5000 meters
- Week 2, Feb. 8–14: 500 meters
- Week 3, Feb. 15–21: 2000 meters
- Week 4, Feb. 22–29: 10,000 meters
Competitors logged their results from each event in their free Concept2 Online Logbook. Standings were calculated and posted weekly based on average pace of all events to date, and participants moved up (or down) the ranks from week to week battling for position right until the end of week 4.
This year, 103 people participated in all four events to complete the Tour, with participation from the following countries: Canada, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Great Britain, Germany, France, Spain, Denmark, and the United States. The top overall average pace for the four events was 1:37.3 from Kristian Stenshamn of Sollentuna, Sweden. Congratulations, Kristian!
Missed the Tour this year? Make sure you plan on it next February. In the meantime, we encourage you to join the fun this summer with the SkiErg Performance Series. This challenge is designed to help guide your summer dryland ski training by “inspiring” you to do a regular series of assessments on the SkiErg in May, July, September and November. Skiers are encouraged to submit scores for each of the four test distances in each of the four testing periods to best monitor training progress.
